As of yesterday, she is now six weeks old. She is no longer wearing newborn diapers and most of her newborn sized clothes are too small. In about two weeks we go for her shots; I'm not looking forward to that at all!

Recently someone made the comment that she either sleeps a lot or else I can only grab a camera when she's sleeping. Well...actually both are right. She does sleep a lot, but the camera flash also makes her close her eyes most of time. In these three pictures, she was actually sleeping. :)

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; She weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and was 20 inches long. She has a head full of dark hair and is the prettiest baby ever born! :)

When she was born, she had a little trouble with low blood sugar (her blood sugar was 16 when she was born...all part of having a mom with diabetes). Her body has now learned to regulate it on her own, so she is perfectly fine! She also had a little jaundice and had to spend a day and a half on a bili pad, but that is all fine now too.

I'm doing good too (not that anyone asks about me anymore...it's all about Kara! haha). I am still getting over the C-section, but apparently I'm doing better than anyone expected. Yesterday, I went to my OB for my two week follow up and everything is great. I do have a little drainage at my incision site and I'm having to keep it clean, dry, and bandaged, but it will be just fine.

Well, that is it from me. I'm leaving you with some pictures of our precious little one!

The doctor giving Kara a Mohawk before she would let me see her

Kara on her bili pad to help get rid of the jaundice

Sleeping peacefully

Kara and her daddy sleeping after a long day

Kara and me after her first trip to church

4 Days to Go

I don't know how many people actually read this anymore, but I felt the need for an update. I had a normal visit yesterday with my OB. While there, my blood pressure was elevated, my legs/ankles/feet were huge, and I had gained 6 pounds (mostly fluid) in a week. So...my doctor was not happy with all of that and had me admitted to the hospital for tests and monitoring.

This morning, I was told that I had the beginnings of preeclampsia. You can look it up to know more (this is a pretty good site), but basically it is something in pregnancy that deals with edema (swelling), protein in the urine, and high blood pressure. It can lead to nerve damage and a lot of other bad things. People with diabetes have a higher risk of developing preeclampsia. But, like I said, I don't have full-blown preeclampsia, only a "touch" of it.

With all of that being said, I am scheduled to have Kara via c-section next Tuesday, June 2. I will be one day shy of 37 weeks. The main reason for the section is the baby's size. Yesterday at my appointment, the ultrasound measured her as already being 7 pounds 12 ounces.

Well, that is pretty much it! I may be posting a baby picture with my next update! :)

35 Weeks...Almost

I'll be 35 weeks tomorrow, so I'm posting a day early, but...I just thought this was worth the post. We found out today that we will meet baby Kara on June 4th. My swelling is still a concern to my doctor and the baby has already dropped a good bit, so we're going to be induced at week 37. I went today to get a steroid shot and will get another one tomorrow. Basically, I am getting these to help make Kara's lungs more mature.

We're excited to have a day set and shocked that it is only about two weeks away. She wanted me to not go back at all, but I begged her to let me go until Thursday so my students would be finished with state testing. It was hard getting all the end of the year stuff done in two days when I thought I had over a week. I did a lot from home today, but now I can somewhat relax until I have to start getting things ready for next year.

We have had two great baby showers. The first was at church and then I had one at work. We still lack a lot of needed things off of our registry (Babies-R-Us Registry), but we have been blessed to receive a lot of great things! We have one more shower (my family/friends) Sunday.

We finished up our childbirth classes and took a newborn wellness class. We enjoyed them all, even though most people seem to not like going to them. We still do not have a date for when I will be induced. Hopefully, we'll get that at next Tuesday's appointment. Maybe my next post will include a date! :)

31 Weeks and Counting

Things are starting to wind down! It's so hard to believe that I'm already in my 31st week. My doctor has told me that we will deliver two weeks early, so that means we'll get to meet our precious baby Kara in less than seven weeks.

I'm still going for weekly visits to my OB and still having an ultrasound and NST (non-stress test) done at each visit. Things are still right on schedule. Kara is in the 50-55 percentile as far as weight and size. Last time she was measured (almost 3 weeks ago) she weighed 2 pounds 15 ounces.

Lance and I started Childbirth classes last week. It was pretty interesting. Basically, last week's class introduced breathing techniques (we're supposed to be practicing before next class...haha) and a tour of the labor and delivery department at the hospital. We have two more class meetings to meet and then we'll probably be taking a newborn class. (As long as the classes are free to hospital patients...why not?)

We're having our first baby shower tomorrow. This is the church shower, and then Thursday we'll be having one at school. I'm excited about them! :)

I seem to be growing daily. According to the doctor, I've only gained about 18 pounds so far. Thankfully, it all seems to be in my stomach. The picture below is me at 28 weeks. I'll be putting an updated one up sometime soon.

28 Weeks

Tomorrow I officially enter into my third trimester (28 weeks). Everything is going good as far as the baby goes. I went back to Jackson a few weeks ago for the fetal echocardiogram. Everything looked great and the cardiologist saw no reason to see me for a followup. I go next Tuesday to my OB for an ultrasound, so hopefully, I'll be posting a new picture soon!

Baby Girl may have a name now. She's had a name before we knew she was a girl, but Lance didn't want to settle on one so early (I'll blame it on him!). Maybe soon, we'll be letting the name be "set-in-stone" but for now, her name is Kara. I think that I would have a hard time calling her anything else!

In other news, I've been sick. Not to get into all the specifics because I know everyone else is suffering too, but I've had an extremely sore throat, cough, low fever, congestion (big time), headaches, body aches, a horrible voice, etc. I came home from work early Friday and spent almost three days in bed. I should have stayed home from work Monday, but the stubborn part of me made me go to work. Everything is getting better, but I still have coughing fits every time I lie down. That makes for a very hard time when trying to get sleep!

We had a good bit of snow Sunday, or so I've heard. I was so sick feeling that I couldn't have cared less about seeing it. By the time I finally got up to look it was almost gone. The next time I looked, it was gone. That's my kind of snow though..here for a few hours and then GONE.

My ankle is much better. It still swells up some every day, but the swelling is usually gone in the morning. I still have to be careful when I go down steps or inclines, but it rarely bothers me.

I started playing around on twitter.com. I was not sure if I would like it or not, but I think I do now. If you are on there, look me up! If you have been thinking about trying it out...go ahead!

Well, that's it for me. I am sure there are mistakes, but like I've said before...I am not writing an essay and looking to be published. Also, with me being sick and having the "pregnancy brain," you're good if you get anything from me at all! ;)

Registry

Lance and I went to our local Geoffrey (Toys "R" Us/ Babies "R" Us) and created a registry for our baby girl. I am actually over half-way there! :)

In baby news, she is doing great! I went to Jackson for my ultrasound anatomy scan on Friday, January 23, and everything was right on track. She was only three days behind her gestational age, and the doctor was very happy with that. I go back to the same office in a few weeks to see a neonatal cardiologist (I'm not sure of her "proper" title) for a fetal echocardiogram.

My ankle is still getting better every day. The crutches only lasted two days and I went without a splint for the first time yesterday. It hurt like crazy for about 5 minutes, but then I was able to go along on my way (and on my foot). Several hours later, my ankle started to hurt. But, to make a long story short.... after an evening and night of not being able to walk on my foot at all without sobbing, Lance took me to the ER this morning. Apparently, I sprained my ankle and possibly tore a ligament (or ligaments). I am now in a splint and have crutches.

Well, I don't feel like writing a whole lot, but I can say....crutches are not any fun! I think I would do better without them, and I hope they get easier to use with practice!

Think Pink!

Well, it's official. We had a good holiday and now we're looking forward to 2009. I don't have much to write about, but just thought I'd let everyone know that I'm still alive and well. The pregnancy is going great....slow, but great! I am now over 14 weeks, and we're anxiously awaiting for my next doctor's appointment next Wednesday. Hopefully, if the baby cooperates, we'll find out the baby's sex. In this ultrasound picture you can see the baby's head. I think I can also see knees, eyes, and a nose. The heart rate was 175, which is really good. The baby is 1.93 cm. I was told that I needed to be gaining more weight...my doctor wants me to have gained 3 pounds by the time I see her again in two weeks. I have never been told to GAIN weight...crazy! ;)
I have been feeling good as long as I take my nausea medicine. I still feel waves of it coming on, but I don't get to the point of vomiting or anything. I'm tired all the time and have become a big fan of naps! I think...

It has been crazy around here lately! I don't have much to write about, but I figured that since it had been a while (and since Jenn asked!...haha) I would write an update.

This will be very brief without a lot of thought, but let's see...

My uncles are doing good. I hate to say that I cannot tell you much, but I do know that they are doing good.

My mom and I went shopping at the outlet mall in Gulfport a few weekends ago. I always enjoy spending time with my mom, and shopping is always great (well...at least if you have money!).

My cousin and her husband adopted a baby last week. It was all a very big surprise, but we are all excited for them!

Work has been VERY stressful this week. I'm into my fifth year of teaching, and I'm starting to have doubts about myself and my chosen profession. People at work are really getting on my nerves...friends there are becoming "few and far between"; our new math program is terrible, and it seems to spend a lot of time on skills that are not even in our third grade curriculum; my students are whiny; some of my students' parents have no respect for their children, for me, or for education; I have a room of thieves; and I even had a student use the restroom on the playground this week. (And no, I'm not just talking about him wetting his pants....) All of that is just a small drop in the bucket of things that are going on, but that's all I care to share.

Well, maybe this all proves that I am still living and breathing (last I checked anyway). Feel free to send me money or job offers, just don't ask me what's going on...I don't want to talk specifics about my problems. Also, it seems like the people I'm around just try to make their problems sound worse off than mine AFTER they have played the "caring card" to ask me what's going on. I don't enjoy competing with "friends" about who has it worse.

Also, I'm sure this is full of grammatical errors, but don't feel like I'll get a kick out of you pointing them out to me. You would probably be the one to end up getting the kick... ;)

Sigh

I made it though my first full week of school for this school year. It has been rough, but I always feel that way at the beginning of a new year. I feel like I have an okay group, I just hate getting a new class used to handling new routines. It's so nice to know that tomorrow if finally Friday. As of now, I have 21 students. That seems to be a pretty good number (less would also be fine!) so I hope that it does not grow any more.

My uncle with colon cancer is doing great. I saw him Sunday for lunch at my parents' house (I blogged about that before) and he looked really good.

The other uncle that I blogged about got some pretty bad news. He went for tests in Birmingham yesterday and found that the cancer he had in his throat has spread to his abdomen. Because it has spread like it has, they will not be able to do surgery. From what I understand, he will be going next week to see if there is a treatment (like chemo or something) that will help.

Well, that's all the blogging that I have the energy for. I still have a lot to do, but I'm hoping to get the majority done this week so that I can just chill out Monday and Tuesday, before starting back Wednesday. We ate supper and went to a few stores. A funny thing happened at Sam's. My friend, Melinda, was looking at the digital cameras. She took my picture with one, and then looked at the pictures that were stored on the camera's internal memory. As she was flipping through she saw a picture of my brother and my nephew. Crazy!! Also, their picture is the picture right before the one of me. I called my sister-in-law to ask what they were doing playing with cameras in Sam's. She said that my niece was playing with that same camera the night before. I still can't get over it!

Today, I spent several hours in my classroom trying to get things ready for the new school year. Our new math series came in, and it is one that requires A LOT of preparation to have it all set up. I spent about 2 hours on that alone and didn't even get a third finished. I guess I know what I'll be doing next week! Feel free to come help me if you feel the urge!

Oh, and by the way...Lance, go get your own soda and chips! ;) And while you're at it, get me some too!

Wife Swap

Where do they find the lunatics they show on the show Wife Swap? I'm not a huge fan of the show, but every time I watch it I think the people on there must all be paid actors.

Lance, if you read this (which I don't think you do...), if you ever get the idea that you are my master and can demand me to do things, you've got another thing coming! Haha... :)

Hoover, Hair, and Bowling

This has been an exciting week! Tuesday, I went to visit Olivia (& Cooper and Justin) in Hoover and came back Thursday. We had a great time while I was there. :) Wednesday, I bravely got my hair cut by a lady who could hardly speak English. I basically told her that I wanted something different, but not super short. Well, apparently, she thought "I give girl mullet." Well...that's exactly what she did! I didn't mind it so bad after I left there (especially after I "tamed" down my new bouffant). The next day when I washed and styled it myself, I began to realize how much of a mullet it was. She started layers at the top of my head. She did about 5 or so layers, and then just kept the rest of my hair the same. After washing it again this morning, it was AWFUL! I ended up going to someone this morning to "fix" it. She had to clean the layers up and take off a good bit, but I really like it now. And, to top it all off, I finally found a new stylist that I like! So, after an embarrassing 'do, I'm liking the newest one. Another horrible thing...I had to pay out the "wazoo" for the mullet. The cut today was less than half the price!

After getting my hair cut today, I went bowling with Angela, Hannah, & Hunter (and some of their friends). We had a good time. I didn't get any strikes, but I did manage to get several spares. I came in 2nd for the first game and tied for 1st for the second game.

Wall-E and the Fourth

Amy and I went to see Wall-E Thursday. I have been wanting a hamburger, so tonight I'll finally get one! :)

Still Twitching

My arm is STILL TWITCHING! There really isn't a lot to write about, but I would give it a try.

I've had trouble with my underarm lately. For the last week or so it has been twitching like crazy. I don't know what's going on with it. For about the past two days it has gotten worse. It even woke me up some last night and kept me awake a lot. It's doing it right now and I'm about ready to just cut my arm off.

Lance and I went to a revival service tonight at the church I went to growing up. The sermon was good and it was great seeing some old family and friends.

Well, this has been short and sweet (kinda like me..haha), but it'll have to do. :)

Weekend

Thursday night Lance and I checked out the new Chili's in Meridian. We waited about 20 minutes to get a table, which we thought was pretty good. Then when it came to getting our food.... we waited so long that we almost got up and left. We both ordered simple foods (he got a burger, I got a salad), but from the time we sat down at the table to the time we got our food, it was over an hour. The food was good, but definitely no worth waiting that long for.

Friday night we had some friends from church over for supper. It was nice... food was good (if I do say so myself...) and the fellowship was nice. It was supposed to be a "movie night" but we ended up not watching a movie. Everyone left except for two people, so the two of them (and me a little) ended playing with my Nintendo Wii. I wonder now if their arm hurt the next day. :)

Well, that's about it...nothing big to write about Saturday and Sunday. Well, you'll get over it! ;)

We had a good weekend. Lance's old college roommate got married in Oxford. We went there Saturday for the wedding and reception, which were both absolutely beautiful. We really had a good time and are glad that we were able to be there! Saturday night we stayed in Oxford. Before we left town Sunday morning, we went around the campus. Neither of us are Ole Miss fans, but we figured we'd check out the campus since we were there. Oxford really is a nice town and so was the campus.

After leaving Oxford, we headed to Tupelo to check out the Tupelo Flea Market. Lance was not impressed, but I wished I had more money to spend! After spending a little time there we headed home. When we got close to the Columbus exits on the highway, we decided to stop in Starkville and see how much the Mississippi State campus had changed and try to find alumni stickers. We went to the new Barnes and Nobles Bookstore on campus and went inside the newly rebuilt Union. Wow, it was very different!

We drove around the campus and Starkville for a while (never did find alumni stickers...the bookstore was sold out), and then headed out. Sunday night we went to my parents' house for Father's Day. My mom's family was there for a cookout (yummy) and we had to pick up Dozer. He was staying with my parents while we were gone.

Monday was our 7th wedding anniversary. We ate at Olive Garden for supper and we both ate entirely too much! It was good, but the thought of going there again makes me feel sick!

Yesterday I met Amy at the Daily Grind for lunch (super yummy) and then we did a little shopping. We ended up seeing M. Night Shyamalan's new movie The Happening. After seeing that movie, I really wonder where he comes up with his ideas! Once again, he created a very crazy movie.

As if this post isn't already random enough, I also wanted to write about how impressed I am with a florist named Sue at Winn-Dixie. Last Sunday was our time to do the flowers at church. I wanted to get something that would be easy for Lance's parents to get since we were out of town, so I thought I'd give Winn-Dixie a try. The flowers were absolutely gorgeous! They were priced MUCH lower than they would have been at a florist, so I was very impressed!

Well, that's it from me today! I'll post a picture of the Ole Miss campus, the new Union at MSU, and the flowers. Also, keep in mind that the flowers were made four days before the picture was taken.

Lazy and Loving It!

Yesterday was a busy day! I had a doctor's appointment that ended up having a 3 hour wait because the doctor had to leave twice for emergencies at the hospital. Then I rushed around town running errands and was late to my parents' house for supper. My grandma (my dad's mom) is staying with my parents for a few days, so my mom was cooking for all of us. There was one good thing about being busy though...I finally got a better night's sleep. Granted, I still tossed and turned for several hours, but I was actually able to sleep late this morning (if you call 10 o'clock late).

Today has been lazy, but productive. I hemmed a dress, cut an undershirt out of a shirt, ordered flowers, washed clothes, and listed a new item to sell on ebay. Those of you that know me know that I used to have a website (click here to see the old site). With everything going on in my life, I got tired of remembering html codes and going through the hassle of uploading updates to the site. With all that being said, here I am in a much easier place. Hopefully, it won't be something for me to forget and I'll keep posting my thoughts and happenings. One thing I can promise is that everything will always been somewhat random. Yeah, I know...that would not make a very scholarly paper and the teacher in me knows better, but it's how my mind (that is ridden with ADD tendencies) works!

Now, for an update on me since my last post on my old site...

I am about to start my third year teaching third grade at Newton County Elementary School. On my last post on my old site, I had just signed a contract for this job after I had been teaching second grade for two years at Forest Elementary School.

In December 2007, I received my master's degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi State University. This is my first summer in YEARS that I have not been taking classes, so I am trying to get adjusted to that. So far, it has been an easy adjustment!

Lance and I are still happily (most of the time...haha) married. We'll have our seventh anniversary on the 16th of this month.

I have been wanting a Nintendo Wii for months. I started rolling saved change and scrapping any other spare money I could find...(Thank you State Tax Commission for letting me overpay on my taxes!...) With that being said, I finally bought one Thursday and have been playing it regularly. Hopefully, I will get a Wii Fit soon!

Well, I hope that was random enough for everyone! Hopefully, I will be back soon! :)
